Reduction of Bacillus thuringiensis Cry1Ac toxicity against Helicoverpa armigera by a soluble toxin-binding cadherin fragment.
A cadherin-like protein has been identified as a putative receptor for Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Cry1Ac toxin in Helicoverpa armigera and plays a key role in Bt insecticidal action. In this study, we produced a fragment from this H. armigera Cry1Ac toxin-binding cadherin that included the predicted toxin-binding region. Binding of Cry1Ac toxin to this cadherin fragment facilitated the formati...
متن کاملBacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis Cyt1Aa synergizes Cry11Aa toxin by functioning as a membrane-bound receptor.
Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis produces crystal proteins, Cry (4Aa, 4Ba, 10Aa, and 11Aa) and Cyt (1Aa and 2Ba) proteins, toxic to mosquito vectors of human diseases. Cyt1Aa overcomes insect resistance to Cry11Aa and Cry4 toxins and synergizes the toxicity of these toxins. However, the molecular mechanism of synergism remains unsolved. Here, we provide evidence that Cyt1Aa functions a...
متن کاملSynergism of Bacillus thuringiensis toxins by a fragment of a toxin-binding cadherin.
The insecticidal crystal proteins produced by Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) are broadly used to control insect pests with agricultural importance. The cadherin Bt-R(1) is a binding protein for Bt Cry1A toxins in midgut epithelia of tobacco hornworm (Manduca sexta). We previously identified the Bt-R(1) region most proximal to the cell membrane (CR12-MPED) as the essential binding region required f...
متن کاملOral toxicity of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis to adult mosquitoes.
The solubilized entomotoxin of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis killed adult male and female mosquitoes of several genera and of various physiological states when it was administered orally. Adult mosquito mortality was further influenced when the preparation was contained in sucrose solution. The potential implication for the control of adult mosquitoes is discussed.
متن کاملCytolytic toxin Cyt1Aa of Bacillus thuringiensis synergizes the mosquitocidal toxin Mtx1 of Bacillus sphaericus.
Using the shuttle vector pBU4, the mosquitocidal toxin gene mtx1 from Bacillus sphaericus strain SSII-1 was introduced into an acrystalliferous strain of B. thuringiensis both individually and in combination with the accessory protein gene p20 and the cytolytic protein gene cyt1Aa from B. thuringiensis subsp. israelensis. Bioassay results indicated that the recombinants B-pMT4(Mtx1) and B-pMT9(...
